Overview

When working with reviews, it’s important to monitor and analyze their most frequent topics. With the help of Tags, you can easily group reviews and get a thorough picture of your client’s feedback.

You can group reviews by:

  • Type: feedback, bug, issue, feature request
  • Emotional impact: compliment, complaint, neutral
  • Product teams responsible for the topic of the review: sales, UX, backend, finance

Who Can Create Tags

User roles that have access to create Tags and set filters for Auto-tags are:

  • Admin
  • User
  • Support manager
  • Reviews manager*

Users with any user role can assign tags to reviews. Learn more about roles in our article on User Roles.

*Reviews manager is a custom role. Reach out to us at help@appfollow.io to learn more.

Create and Edit Tags

Create Tags to assign them to reviews manually, or add them automatically with the help of Auto-tags. Tags belong to a Workspace. This means that for each Workspace in your AppFollow account, you need to create a separate set of Tags. You can create new Tags from the Tags List, or from the Reply to Reviews page.

To create a new Tag from the Tags List:

  1. Expand the Reply to Reviews section in the left-hand navigation panel and click "Tags List".
  2. Type the name of the Tag in the Name column.
  3. Select a color for the Tag. Choose a default color or type in a custom hex code.
  4. Optional: Add the Tag to a category to group tags related to a shared topic. You can choose an existing category or create a new one.
  5. Click the “+” sign to save the Tag.

To create a new Tag from the Reply to Reviews page:

  1. Expand the Reply to Reviews section in the left-hand navigation panel and click “Reply to Reviews”.
  2. Click “+Add Tag” on the Review where you want to create and add a tag.
  3. In the pop-up, type the name of your new tag.
  4. Optional: Add the Tag to a category to group tags related to a shared topic. You can choose an existing category or create a new one.
  5. Optional: Set a custom color for the Tag.
  6. Click on the “+” button on the right to create the new Tag.
  7. Hit “Save” to add the Tag to the Review.

To edit an existing Tag:

  1. Hover your cursor over the Tag that you want to edit.
  2. Click on the pencil icon next to the attribute that you need to change: Name, Color, or Category.
  3. Click the checkmark to save your changes.

To remove a Tag, click on the cross icon in the column on the right of the table and confirm the action in the pop-up window.

💡 Use the search bar at the top of the section to quickly find tags based on their name and category.

Import Tags

If you already have an existing set of tags, you can smoothly transfer to AppFollow by importing your tags into the system.

To import your existing Tags:

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, expand the Reply to Reviews section and click on "Tags List".
  2. Click “Import Tags” in the top-right of the page.
  3. Download our sample file.
  4. Edit the file to include your reply templates.
  5. Go back to the Import Tags window and re-upload the file.

How Reviews Tags Work

After you create a set of Tags, you can add them to Reviews on the Reply to Reviews page. Use Tags to group Reviews with a shared topic, and then use the Filter option to quickly find all Reviews which have the selected Tag.

Add a Tag to a Review

Each review has an “+Add Tag” button, as well as a set of shortcuts for your most popular Tags. Click on a Tag shortcut to instantly add a Tag, or click on “+Add Tag” to choose from all the Tags available in your Workspace.

To add a Tag:

  1. Click on “+Add Tag”.
  2. Select an existing Tag from the list, or enter the name of a new Tag. To save a new Tag in this view, click the “+” button before going to the next step.
  3. Click “Save” in the pop-up window.

Alternatively, simply click on a popular tag suggestion on the Review card. The Tag is added instantly.

Filter by Tags

Click on a Tag in a Review to quickly apply this Tag as a filter for the current view.

To filter by more Tags:

  1. Click on “+Add Filters” at the top of the view.
  2. Select “Tags” from the dropdown.
  3. Choose the required Tags and whether you want to see Reviews with any or all of these Tags.
  4. Click “Apply”.

Find more information about applying filters in our article on Filtering and Sorting.

Auto-tags

Apart from adding Tags manually, it’s possible to automatically assign tags to reviews based on certain conditions. Learn more in our article about Auto-tags.

Archive Tags

Enable the Archive Tags feature on the Reply to Reviews page to control assigned tags without affecting your reports and statistics. When a user updates their Review and your previous tags become irrelevant, use this feature and archive the tags instead of deleting them.

What’s next?

Now that you’ve created a set of Tags and applied them to your Reviews, it’s time to use them to analyze your incoming reviews and understand which topics are most popular among your app’s users. Learn more in our article about the Tags Chart.
